We Effect · Documentary, Commercial, Social media
Four days in Kenya, and a film about the larva that loves waste.
The job
We Effect is a development organisation. They needed a hero film from Kenya about an unlikely main character: a larva that eats waste and becomes animal feed. For the farmers there it means cheaper feed, less rubbish and an income of their own.
How we did it
We travelled there and filmed for four days: the researchers who breed the larvae, the women who use them on their farms, and the market where the waste is collected. Two cameras and a drone. A film like this must not look like an ad. It should let people tell it themselves, and our job is to listen, find the pictures and stay out of the way.
The delivery
The hero film in two versions, one of them for television. Five interviews as films of their own, shorter versions for social media and a 45 second cut. So one trip became material for a whole year.
What came next
Afterwards we made an interview series in Stockholm about cooperatives, with a farm, Coop, HSB and a taxi company among them.
